This ITU MSIT Workshop on innovative technologies trainings with a focus on the following aspects: transformative technologies regulatory aspects and emerging technologies including AI technology aspects and their societal impact, promotes the sharing of information on practical innovative technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, to address connectivity challenges.
Policymakers, regulators and academia.
- Knowledge of ICT networks technical, regulatory, and economic aspects
- An interest in learning about Artificial Intelligence and its applications.
This training offers an opportunity to acquire and share knowledge on the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, for regulators, policy-makers, and academics. The curriculum is designed to address technical, economic, and regulatory opportunities and challenges associated with connecting underserved populations.

Lecture 1: Emerging Technologies
Duration: 45 minutes
Topics Covered:
- Review of key Emerging Technologies for universal connectivity: 5G, LEO orbits, Cloud, Blockchain, Quantum computing, etc.
- Opportunities and challenges associated with Emerging Technologies
Key Learning Points:
- Review of key aspects of transformative new technologies accelerating digital transformation.
- Awareness of positive and negative aspects balancing the adoption of innovative technology.
Lecture 2: Policy and Regulation
Duration: 45 minutes
Topics Covered:
- Policy and Regulation measures as enablers for a sustainable approach of new technologies
- Innovative policy, regulatory, and economic measures as enablers for a sustainable approach to new technologies

- Understanding of key topics to be considered when defining potential regulatory practices to consider.
- Knowledge of The Americas experience on regulation and highlights from driving organizations on the field of technology.
- Consumer perspectives on the use of Emerging Technologies.
Lecture 3: Financial Aspects

- Benchmarking strategies and regulatory measures adopted or planned on emerging technologies in the Americas Region

Lecture 4: Technical Aspects

- BDT AI-driven tools: ITU's Connectivity Planning Platform (CPP); Retrieval augmented generation RAG/chatbot talking to ITU data on infrastructure; AI-models for ICT infrastructure detection based on satellite imagery
